Lifestyle | Four Ways to Unwind

Hi Lovelies! It is no secret that trying to grow a blog and create yourself a brand is hard work, contrary to what others might think. I spend 80% of my day glued to my phone or Macbook, editing photos, scrolling the explore page on Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration, or of course, writing blog posts. Not to mention that I work full time.

There are some nights when I really struggle to switch off. Images of marble and rose gold themed office spaces, double denim and my next blog post ideas streaming through my head like a slideshow. Let me tell you something, this gal NEEDS her sleep. I've always had somewhat of a curfew, I fell asleep at a Steps Concert when I was child because it was past my bedtime and HEAVEN FORBID I miss even 30 minutes of my beauty sleep and yea... it's kind stuck with me. I mean I don't fall asleep in night clubs in Manchester, don't worry ya'selfs, but I do like to be in bed for a reasonable time if I can be. As well as not being able to switch off at night, there are some days when my head feels so full of nonsense that I can't think creatively or be productive and at this point something needs to be done!

Don't get me wrong, I love me a good TV show, but going from one piece of technology to another just doesn't cut it sometimes y'know. So on those days when my brain needs a real break, there is a few things that I always reach for to reset and realign my head for the next day.

READING

Reading. Whether that be a magazine or a good book. There is no better way to allow my mind to wander. I just adore getting stuck into a romantic novel (i'm a right sop deep down). Reading really lets me disconnect from any stress or drama that I have going on at that time. I really love Sophie Kinsella as an author (sorry nothing too thrilling from me on the book choice front!).

A HOT BATH

This is really groundbreaking and life changing stuff that you've never heard before right? I know. Revolutionary post writing right here. Get yourself a hot bath on the go. Throw in some sort of bubble maker or bath bomb (see my Bomb Cosmetic post here), some music, a cuppa tea (or beverage of choice) and just relax.  And I mean relax. Close your eyes and just enjoy it.  I quite often ruin a relaxing bath by taking my phone into the bathoom or laptop and end up still scrolling or watching Youtube, thus never actually allowing myself a minute to collect my thoughts. A bath when you actually just lie back and switch off for ten minutes is a perfect way to de-stress.

YOGA

Now if you aren't usually one for Yoga you need to choose a Yoga Routine wisely. By wisely I mean don't go for 'YOGA FOR WEIGHT LOSS' or 'YOGA FOR BUTT AND THIGHS'. These kind of  routines are fabulous, but finding yourself planking and downward facing dogging all over the show for half an hour isn't going to be the most relaxing now is it? For an experienced Yogi perhaps, but for myself, even though I love a fast flow yoga session, when I'm stressed, I need to just breathe for a second. So that's what my advice is. To breathe. Getting myself into a comfortable seated position and concentrating on my breathing does absolute wonders and I could do it for hours.  I really love Yoga with Adrienne which can be found you YouTube.

WALKING

I think I spend my entire weekends just walking around. I drive, but I avoid driving when I can, as it isn't my favourite thing. Strange I know, but if I lived somewhere that didn't require a car or public transport to get from A to B, then I would be so content.  Therefore when the weekend rolls around I have my walking partner by my side 24/7 (Ryan) and we head straight out for a lil stroll. As well as de-stressing us both, I really feel like it strengthens our relationship just a little bit more each time.  How can we expect a relationship to work whilst buried in our twitter timelines? Taking time to talk about anything and everything always clears my mind ready for a new week.

What are your favourites ways to unwind?

  3. Having a tech free time and creating relaxing environment with calming music is one of the ways I do when I can't take a walk outside, of course taking a walk in the forest (Which I can't do all the time) is the best but just being away from the crown and technology helps me a lot. x
